Irish citizens can submit an ESTA application
The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) was created by the government of the US and is an online system used to evaluate the travel eligibility of Irish citizens who wish to enter the US without a regular visa. Before ESTA, citizens of eligible countries could only travel to the US with a visa obtained from the US embassy. Ireland is now a Visa Waiver Country and citizens of these countries can apply for an ESTA in order to stay in the US for up to 90 days. This includes travel for tourism, business or medical reasons. Submitting an application is simple and fast. All it takes is to fill out an online form. Your ESTA will then be sent to your email address within 72 hours.
Given the strong connection between Ireland and the US and the healthy economy of the country, Ireland is now a part of the Visa Waiver Program. To stimulate a steady flow of visitors to the US, the ESTA makes it easy for travellers to obtain permission to travel to the States. The technology of the ESTA makes for a smooth process and is of benefit to both countries.
